How to Become a Photographer

Photography is a visual art form, creating images either digital using the sensor to capture light, or using light sensitive film. There are many categories in photography and new styles arise every year, just to name those main like abstract, architectural, astrophotography, black and white, candid, commercial, documentary, drone, double exposure, editorial, event, fashion, film, fine art, food, landscape, long exposure, macro, photojournalism, portrait, product, real estate, sports, still life, street, travel, underwater, urbex, wedding and wildlife photography.

If you aspire to become a photographer, deciding what type of photography you want to do before you even start and learn, isn't the right way to begin. What you need to do is to learn the basics and then explore different styles and categories, to learn more about each, also about yourself, what style suits you. Photography isn't only point and shoot. Many people learn how to make photographs, but are not able to create art. For art you need to have it all, the will to explore and keep upgrading knowledge, skill, talent, an eye for detail.

To learn photography, you need a camera, not necessary to buy something costly. What matters is that you learn what happens when you photograph, how photograph is created, settings for each situation, light, lens, distance. You can explore on your own, or get help from professionals through advice, there are many online forums, groups on social networks, where photographers gather to exchange experience, and you will find there many beginners posting their questions or first shots to hear from those experienced how to better their skills. Another way is to join online or offline photography class. I would recommend offline if there's a chance, it's a perfect way to communicate and get help with your camera settings in real time. If you prefer online studies, then New York Institute of Photography is a good choice.
